A Sip of Fine Japanese Rice Wine

I recently had the chance to visit Japan, and one of the highlights of my trip was experiencing the authentic Japanese lifestyle in a ryokan in a charming town called Hakone. Nestled in the mountains west of Tokyo, Hakone is known for its hot spring resorts (ryokans), attractive atmosphere, and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Eager to immerse myself in the local culture, I decided that staying in a traditional ryokan was the perfect way to do it.

The Ryokan Experience

I chose to stay in a small, old-fashioned ryokan — a traditional Japanese inn. These places are a wonderful blend of cultural heritage and hospitality. The ryokan was mostly made out of wood and bamboo, giving it a warm and inviting atmosphere. Inside, the furniture was minimalistic but thoughtful. Low tables and floor seating on tatami mats (woven straw mats) made the space feel cozy and intimate. It was fascinating to see how the Japanese made efficient use of space with such simplicity.
